Leadership Council Meeting

Leadership Council Meeting

The Advancing Adolescent Health Leadership Council met in November 2016 in Charlotte, North Carolina, U.S.A. with the following objectives:

  • Define and clarify key issues in adolescent immunization
  • Identify strategies for addressing adolescents’ unique health needs
  • Chart a pathway for reaching key stakeholders to facilitate partnership and advocacy
Event Video Recap
Accomplishments

The Leadership Council agreed on the imperative to engage key stakeholders more widely – including parents and adolescents – to identify and adopt solutions for improving adolescent immunization:

Key challenges include lack of accountability and urgency to immunize adolescents

There is no “one size fits all” – countries are diverse in vaccine delivery systems, capabilities, and beliefs, so different approaches are needed

Wherever adolescents might engage with healthcare providers is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to vaccinate

Breaking through apathy requires creative communication and education, with social media an important channel
